About Epictetus
Born a slave, became one of the greatest philosophers. His master reportedly twisted his leg so severely it broke, and Epictetus calmly remarked that he would be lame. Taught that we control only our judgments, not external events. His Discourses and Enchiridion influenced modern cognitive behavioral therapy.
