Zeno of Elea
About Zeno of Elea
Defended Parmenides with paradoxes designed to prove motion is impossible. Achilles can never catch the tortoise in his most famous puzzle. An arrow in flight is at rest at every instant. His paradoxes forced mathematicians to confront infinity for two millennia. Aristotle credited him with inventing dialectic. Reportedly died under torture rather than betray a plot against a tyrant.
