About Peirce
The founder of pragmatism, though the name was popularized by William James. Invented semiotics, the study of signs and symbols. His poverty contrasted sharply with his intellectual contributions. Worked as a scientist for the US Coast Survey for 30 years. His collected papers fill eight volumes and are still being edited.
