A leader of the Vienna Circle. Argued that traditional metaphysics is neither true nor false but meaningless. Meaningful claims must be verifiable in principle. His Aufbau tried to reconstruct all knowledge from experience. Emigrated to the United States in 1935. Later pioneered confirmation theory, modal logic, and probability.
