Isaiah Berlin

About Isaiah Berlin

The Hedgehog and the Fox contrasts one big idea with many small ones. Distinguished negative liberty, freedom from interference, from positive liberty, self mastery. Warned that positive liberty can be twisted into tyranny. Championed value pluralism: genuine goods can conflict irreconcilably. Born in Riga, raised in London. Founding president of Wolfson College, Oxford.
