The Confessions is the first Western autobiography. Converted from Manichaeism after hearing a childs voice saying take up and read. His concept of original sin shaped Western Christianity for 1,500 years. The City of God was written after the sack of Rome in 410. Lived in a small room in Hippo and died as the Vandals besieged the city.
